Design Studio: Introduction to professional practice
300-level course developed for and taught at Wheaton College, Norton MA
Students work in groups on research, design, project management and client communication to complete projects with on-campus clients. Class meetings begin with a standup meeting or group meetings. Multiple projects run simultaneously, emulating studio practice, which allows all students to be involved in a variety of projects and take on multiple roles.
Students use and evaluate contemporary tools for work including Slack, Miro, Basecamp, and shared Google Drives in addition to industry standard digital design software. Students estimate project work and track the time they spend against estimates. We practice some agile methods and ceremonies as appropriate to incorporate how design teams work today.
