Dataverse repository software

Dataverse open source repository software has over 130 installations worldwide. It is developed and maintained by the Institute of Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University with The Global Dataverse Community Consortium.

I led design with the IQSS development team in collaboration with users and data librarians at Harvard and the global community. We developed and integrated new features, improved usability, accessibility and collection of metadata. Specific initiatives included:

  • investigating and prototyping UI conventions to enable access to and use of privacy-preserving features through the NSF-funded Privacy Tools initiative

  • working with legal experts at Harvard to define and communicate policies related to deposits of sensitive data

  • research for and definition of archetypes of Dataverse installations worldwide to help the Harvard team anticipate effects of core product development on the community and their installations.
